Provenance: Stone Collection (stamped). BEECHER TALKS OF OPPRESSION, showing ?great interest? in the African American community, writing that he rejoices for the day when oppression is over and that his hope is that ?your people are preparing themselves by education, to take an honorable part in our now common citizenship?. ?? [ALSO WITH:] 2 ALS?s, 1 pp. each, on ?Christian Union? letterhead, affixed to front free endpaper, from Beecher?s power of attorney requesting that all money be paid to him, with an authorized signature signed ?Henry Ward Beecher?.
