Profusely illustrated. 542, [2, blank] pp. Publisher's full brown cloth over beveled boards, front board and spine stamped in gilt, rear board stamped in blind, brown coated endleaves (spine toned and edgeworn, some wear to boards, corners bumped, endleaves with several pencil notes, first few leaves with dampstaining, text toned, some gutters overopened, skewed). Good. FIRST AMERICAN EDITION. Baker led a force of 1,700 Khedive soldiers and took control of southern Egypt in order to end the slave trade there. After several battles successfully fought, he ended the slave trade and established a trade region in the area.
