[AFRICAN AMERICANA]. [CULLEN, Countee (1903-1946), his copy]. [BRYSON, Clarence J., [sic]  contributor]. The Willow Wand. An Anthology. [Cleveland: Western Reserve University, ca. 1928]. 8vo. 72 pp. Publisher's paper backstrip over thin boards, printed paper label on front wrapper, spine lettered in black. THE SCARCE FIRST EDITION OF THIS POETRY ANTHOLOGY, INSCRIBED BY CLARENCE J. BRYSON TO COUNTEE CULLEN ON THE FFEP.: "To Countee P. Cullen with kindest regards from Clarence F. Bryson April 28, 1928." Bryson's name is incorrect on the contents page (they list his middle initial as "J." but it is actually "F.")

Condition

Front wrapper re-attached with tape, wrappers toned, worn, creased, soiled, rear joint tearing at top, rear hinge cracked with staple binding visible, text a bit toned. Still, a very good copy of this rare and fragile item.

With Cullen's large bookplate on the inner front wrapper. A wonderful association with one of the major figures of the Harlem Renaissance.
