FIRST EDITION OF THE AUTHOR'S RARE FIRST NOVEL, A PROTEST NOVEL. 

Condition

Light rubbing to cloth binding, some offsetting to endleaves, endleaves and text a bit toned; jacket spine a bit sunned, some faint dampstaining and a few tears to jacket spine, some rubbing, soiling to jacket panels. Very good.

The basis of the 1968 film of the same name, directed by Charles Martin (the film differed quite a bit from the novel). This book is compared to Richard Wright’s Native Son for its bold depiction of “the shattering effects of racism..."
