[AFRICAN AMERICANA]. [SLAVERY DOCUMENT]. CAMPBELL, Walter L. (b. 1807). State of Louisiana Bill of Sale for a Slave Boy to John Schen. New Orleans, LA: January 11, 1860. One folio page on State of Louisiana document with printed and manuscript information. Approximately 18 x 11 3/4". 

Condition

3 vertical and 2 horizontal creases, some wear, a few small holes (with minor loss to one manuscript word) at the intersection of creases, some wear, soiling, foxing, toning, verso quite toned. Good.

A notorious slave trader, Walter L. Campbell has filled-out and signed this document. "That I, Walter L. Campbell of this city, for and in consideration of the sum of Fourteen Hundred thirty five [? - partially obscured due to a small hole] Dollars, to me paid by John Schen of New Orleans the receipt whereof I herby acknowledge, do bargain, sell, convey, transfer and deliver unto the said John Schen a negro boy called [?] Lancaster aged fifteen years. Said negro I warrant to be free from the vices [?] and maladies prescribed by the Laws of Louisiana and to be a Slave for life..." Signed and dated below by Campbell.
