African Studio Portrait Photograph Group with Military and Youth Fashion Images. 1980s. Country unknown. Group of 12 African vernacular photographs, several likely studio portraits, including repeated images of what may be the same young men posed in military dress, casual clothing, and staged interiors with prop furniture, telephone, bottle shelves, and decorative backdrops. Includes several strong military portraits of a young man in camouflage uniform and beret, along with informal or studio-style friendship portraits showing late-20th-century African youth fashion and social presentation. One verso bears names, possibly “Apollo John” and “Joseph Cleange,” and a date of 1988. A visually strong African vernacular studio photograph group with military, friendship, and youth culture content. Photographs various sizes, loose as shown.

Condition

Condition varies, with handling wear, toning, creasing, edge wear, surface marks, fading, and some losses or emulsion damage to a few images; generally good overall.
