America’s Cup 19th Century Sailing Yachts Albumen Photographs. Collection of three 7” x 9” albumen photographs of Sailing yachts that participated in the America’s Cup races in the late 19th Century. Two of the images are of the yacht “Valkyrie II”, one with the photographer’s imprint of Strohmeyer & Weyman, Copyright 1892. The Valkyrie II, officially named “Valkyrie”, was a British racing yacht that was the unsuccessful challenger of the 1893 America’s Cup race against American defender “Vigilant”. Both images picture her crew on deck, one image with other vessels pictured behind her. The third image is of the “Mayflower”. The Mayflower was the victorious U.S. defender of the sixth America’s Cup in 1886 against Scottish challenger “Galatea”. The crew of the Mayflower is also pictured on deck.

Condition

The mounts have edge wear, and a few unobtrusive nicks in the albumen. Original 19th images of America’s Cup sailing yachts are very difficult to source, and quite rare.
