This scarce biography of Johnson (1780-1850), published before Johnson became Martin Van Buren?s Vice President (the only Vice President to be elected by the U. S. Senate), relates his exploits as a commander during the Battle of the Thames, where he killed the Shawnee Chief, Tecumseh, in single combat. Johnson was also a member of the U. S.
