Illustrated. 468 pp. Publisher's full gray cloth, front board and spine stamped in black and gilt, publisher's price-clipped dust jacket. EARLY EDITION, SIGNED BY STRAUSS ON THE FFEP. Lewis L. Strauss was one of the founders of the United States Atomic Energy Commission under Truman, and had advocated for the atomic bombs to be used on a symbolic target as a warning, instead of dropping them on Japanese cities. He was denied the position of Commerce Secretary due to various in-fighting, and controversies. Of note, he was portrayed by Robert Downey, Jr. in the 2023 film, Oppenheimer, for which Downey won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor.
