Wise was a Congregationalist leader and activist, protesting against British taxation, during the earlier colonial period. His works were re-issued during the foment of rebellion (they were first published ca. 1717). Titles include: A Vindication of the Government of New-England Churches; The Churches Quarrel Espoused: or, a Reply...; A Platform of Church-Discipline... On the loose ffep., there is an ownership inscription (dated 1774) by Henry Clark; on the fp., there is a bookplate from the Library of The Sources and History of The Constitution of the United States and its Makers.
