An Art Nouveau / Jugendstil Carved Chair. Late 19th/early 20th Century. Carved with a nude maiden and floral and foliate designs. Light green upholstery. 46 x 21 x 21 ??. Beautiful chair with interesting provenance and backstory: According to a news clipping in the Holland Herald accompanying the chair, Dutch magician Peter Pit bought this chair at a Hollywood antiques store for $300. Just after Pit bought it, Barbra Streisand laid eyes on the piece, and being an avid collector of Art Nouveau, offered to buy it from him. She first offered $900, but Pit refused. On a follow-up visit to Pit?s home, she upped her offer to $1500, to no avail. Pit, who became acquainted with Streisand years before when both were performing in New York, told her: ?You can come out and look at it, or sit on it any time. But the chair stays here with me.?
