Archive of Retail & Department Store Union Photographs. Late 1930 - 1970s. An extensive photo archive documenting the activities and internal life of American retail-sector labor organizations including the Retail, Hardware, and Appliance Employees Union, Retail Clerks International Association, and other related local/regional organizations.
The archive comprises over 250 original photographic prints depicting union strikes and picket lines, formal banquets, educational and organizing conferences, and administrative office snapshots. The strike imagery is especially compelling, including storefront demonstrations, assembled workers with signage, and stores under protest, reflecting major department store labor actions of the mid-20th century, including those simultaneous with the nationally significant movements including the Montgomery Ward dispute of 1943–44. Photos generally each 8 x 10."
Generally good to very good; expected wear, with occasional creasing, edge wear, and scattered verso annotations and stamps. Panoramic photographs are creased from folded storage.
