Encased within original dark plum straight?grain morocco pictorially stamped in gilt (tiny spots of rubbing at corners). Provenance: contemporary penciled gift inscription on front free endpaper. First published in 1849, this pocket map depicts various railroad, canal, stage, and steamboat routes through the midwestern states. Along the foliate border, four vignettes are shown at each corner showing views of Chicago, Detroit, St. Louis and Cincinnati. Howes E?165.
