On elaborately lithographed letterhead printed by Strobridge Lithograph Co., depicting owners and managers P.T. Barnum and J.A. Bailey. Addressed to M.J. Mahan Jr., Bailey declines the act Mahan had proposed (presumably for the Barnum & Bailey Greatest Show on Earth). One 4to sheet, signed ?J.A. Bailey.? With original mailing folds, accompanied by the original typed mailing cover.
