BLACKSTONE SR., Harry (Henry Boughton, 1885 ? 1965). Embroidered Self-Portrait Caricature. 1962. A left-facing bust self-portrait of Harry Blackstone Sr. embroidered with purple thread on a linen table napkin, with the magician?s autograph and inscription also embroidered beside it in green. The inscription reads, ?To Charles Ruben From + Bye Harry Blackstone / 2 ? 23 ? 1962.? 17 x 15?. With a few scattered stains and one hole in the lower right. Blackstone frequently drew similar caricatures of himself, but few have survived on cloth besides those that were embroidered over the original ink in the manner of the example offered here. An unusual keepsake of this famed American illusionist.
