Ike Weir was the first man to take the Featherweight Champion of the World title, besting Frank Murphy on March 31, 1889 in a highly publicized match which lasted an incredible eighty rounds. He would lose the title to ?Torpedo? Billy Murphy early the following year, however Weir would then defeat Murphy during a rematch which saw the Belfast Spider knock the Torpedo clear out of the ring. He would retire with a professional record of twenty-six wins, two losses, and nine draws.
