Bound in contemporary calf, spines ruled and tooled in gilt, red gilt morocco lettering labels (both volumes rebacked preserving the original spines, hinges repaired, bindings worn, soiled, scuffed, with some color restoration, text toned, foxed, soiled, previous owner's signature and inkstamp on both ffeps.) Good FIRST POSTHUMOUS AND FIRST COMPLETE COLLECTED EDITION OF ONE OF THE FIRST AMERICAN NOVELS. Brackenridge published this novel in installments over a 23-year period, constantly making revisions along the way. This edition represents his final revisions to all parts. This novel, an Americanized version of Don Quixote, has the adventures of Captain John Farrago (Quixote) and his servant Teague (Sancho Panza). BAL 1323.
