Indianapolis: The Bobbs-Merrill Company, [1929]. 8vo. 317, [3, blank] pp. Publisher's full green cloth, front board and spine stamped in yellow, pictorial endleaves, publisher's scarce price-clipped dust jacket (light rubbing to cloth binding, endleaves and text a bit toned, ownership signature on ffep., a few gutters overopened; front flap clipped a bit unevenly at top and bottom, two tape repairs to jacket verso, jacket spine sunned, jacket chipped at edges, several creased tears, some soiling). A near fine copy in a good jacket. FIRST EDITION IN THE RARE DUST JACKET. This book recounts the disastrous Lady Franklin Bay expedition, in which only 6 men survived, including Brainard, out of an original 25. The survivors were hailed as heroes upon their return.
