Card Star and Watch Target Combination. English, ca. 1880. Magnificent and tall sun-like wreath on a slender central arm, decorated with imitation flowers at its center, the rays constructed from painted tin. The magician reproduces six chosen cards at the tips of the sun?s rays on command, and then with a shot from his pistol, a borrowed watch, previously thought destroyed, appears at the center of the garland. With a hammered brass base concealing the plunger mechanism that activates the device, resting on three claw feet clutching white porcelain orbs. Height 30?. Paint chipped especially at tips of sun?s rays, but overall good condition, and a true rarity.
