CARDINI (Richard Pitchford, 1895 ? 1973). Cardini Stage-Worn Gloves. A pair of white kid leather gloves owned and used on stage by Cardini in his famous vaudeville magic act. Each approximately 9" long, with imitation mother of pearl buttons. Spotting, folded, worn. With an LOA from Cardini's daughter attesting to the provenance of the gloves. Not only were these gloves a trademark of Cardini's wardrobe, but they were also an element of his performances that set him apart from other magicians, especially the many who imitated him, as Cardini could and did present his incredible manipulative magic while wearing white gloves. He first practiced card manipulation in the trenches of WWI while wearing gloves and, as legend has it, continued using them while recovering from his war wounds in hospital.
