Raymond Carver is considered to be one of the most significant writers of the later twentieth century, often credited with helping to revitalize the short story as a literary form. He wrote ?Furious Seasons? after taking a creative writing course taught by novelist John Gardner, who would become a mentor and major influence on Carver?s work. The story was republished for the first time fifteen years later in Carver?s short story collection, Furious Seasons and Other Stories.
