Whitley, 1819. 8vos. Illustrated with 155 copperplate illustrations, 15 by George Cruikshank. 4 volumes. Half-title in volume I. Handsomely bound to style in modern full brown levant morocco, boards ruled in blind, two burgundy gilt morocco lettering labels, five raised bands, all edges gilt. Spines a bit toned, occasional minor damage in text; text and plates are exceptionally bright and clean. Fine. FIRST EDITION IN BOOK FORM, FIRST PRINTING. Profusion of engraved plates featuring scoundrels, giants, dwarfs, spies, traitors, idiots, prostitutes, strongman, tightrope showmen, and other curious characters including Isaac Fawkes, Mary Tofts, and Matthew Buchinger.
