Collection of 28 circus and menagerie newspaper advertisements. American, 19th century (bulk 1870s-80s). A collection of pictorial advertisements from various newspapers, advertising circuses and traveling menageries, all wonderfully illustrated with engraved vignettes of trained and wild animals, circus proprietors, equestrians, a human cannonball, giants, and curiosities. Dating as early as 1834, but with most falling between the 1870s-80s.

Some of the shows represented include P.T. Barnum's Greatest Show on Earth; June, Titus, Angevine & Co.; Great Forepaugh Show; John Robinson's Great World's Exposition; W.W. Cole's Circus, Museum and Menagerie; Sells Brothers; Batcheller & Doris; and more.

All handsomely matted, many cut with a separate window showing the publication and date.
