This diverse sale - made up of fine, vintage, and vernacular photographs - will focus closely on the snapshot. Once considered mere "fabrics of yesteryear," these fleeting images have been recently reclaimed by the collecting community, and appreciated for their candid, historical, and visual depth. But all genres of photographs will be represented, with featured lots to include space and NASA material, sideshow cabinet cards, fine art photos, and vernacular works of all types.

Collection of Salvador Dali Press Photographs. 1974–1980s. Group of 11 black-and-white press photographs of Salvador Dali with agency stamps, typed captions, archive stamps, and editorial markings on versos. Images include Dali in a leopard-skin coat; Dali with Gala; Dali at press conferences; close-up portraits emphasizing his moustache; Dali presenting or standing near his artwork; press views of Dali paintings and sculpture; and a humorous image of Dali being attended to by several hands while wearing a wig. Agencies and stamps include SIPA Press, AFP Photo, Reportajes Mundiales, and Cine Mundial Archivo, with dates and captions including Paris Christmas holiday coverage, Figueras press conference material from 1980, and Mexican archive stamps from the 1970s. Various sizes, most approximately 4 x 7” to 8 x 10”.

Condition

Conditions vary. Editorial crop marks, grease-pencil notations, typed caption labels, archive stamps, handling wear, creases, edge and corner wear, surface scratches, and press-use wear throughout.
