One of the greatest jazz saxophonists to ever blow the horn, John Coltrane was a pioneer of free jazz and appeared on albums by Miles Davis and Thelonius Monk. Following his death at age 40 from liver cancer Coltrane was worshiped as God incarnate by the Yardbird Temple of San Francisco and was later canonized as a saint by the African Orthodox Church.
