Following on the heels of our 'Artifacts of Play' auction, this sale will celebrate the pastimes of yesteryear and the recent past. The auction will feature antique and modern playing cards and gambling memorabilia, elaborate vintage board games, and puzzles and curiosities, including an extensive offering of rare paper dolls, from various collections.

Compendium of Games. England, late 19th century. Brass inlay mahogany box with multiple compartments containing a wide assortment of table-top parlor games. Includes bone cribbage pegs and dominoes; wooden chess and checkers pieces; game pieces for Tiddlywinks (and instruction booklet), Siege of Paris, and the German game of Bell and Hammer; bone dice; dice cups; lead horses and riders for a steeplechase racing game; over 50 assorted marbles in leather pouch including latticinio swirl glass marbles and handmade stone and non-glass marbles; a folding Halma game board; seven Bezique and Rubicon markers, including one tartan ware with internal pegs; four whist markers: two Pall Mall Whist Markers. No. 5540. London: C.G.S. [and] two The New Whist Marker with text Ent. Stationers Hall. [With] Two game instruction booklets for The Royal Game of Bezique (12th and 15th editions). London: Ghas, Goodall, & Son, 19th century. The bottom drawer opens via a brass pin mechanism and contains two table croquet sets, one wooden, and one miniature brass set. Box 17 x 9 ½ x 8”. Condition varies; not all games are complete.
