DERLETH, August (1909-1971). "The Watcher from the Sky And Other Tales," a Fan-Made Collection of Eight of Derleth's Stories in "Weird Tales," Inscribed by Derleth. [N.p.: Weird Tales, ca. 1944-1953, collected ca. 1970s]. Created by James Ellis, this handsomely-bound and unique staple-bound magazine contains eight excerpted Cthulhu mythos stories by Derleth from Weird Tales Magazine, in later plain black wrappers, and with a color cover from Weird Tales as the frontispiece, and a typewritten contents page by Ellis. A UNIQUE, FAN-MADE ITEM, INSCRIBED BY DERLETH ON THE FIRST BLANK ON BLUE PAPER: "For James Ellis - with cordial regards. Sincerely, August Derleth". Laid-in is a short autograph note signed by Ellis: "This volume was inscribed for me by August Derleth June 19, 1970 at "Place of Hawks" (A. H.). - Jim Ellis". This is housed in the original cardboard Arkham House Mailer with labels, stamps, cancels and some ink notes (worn, as one would expect).

A wonderful and unique item, demonstrating the mutual love and respect between Derleth and his fanbase. The "Place of Hawks" referred to in Ellis' note was the operational office of Arkham House, as well as Derleth's personal home, in Sauk City, WI.

Light rubbing, some collected stories are a bit more toned than others. Fine.
