DERLETH, August (1909-1971). Typed Postcard Signed to Roy A. Squires. Sauk City, WI:  4 September 1943. One stamped postcard, on recto is a typed address of Roy A. Squires in Glendale, CA and with Derleth's typed notation ("August Derleth: Sauk City, Wis." Approximately 3 1/4 x 5 1/2". On verso, addressed "Dear Roy Squires,". Signed "August Derleth" in pink pencil. 

"All thanks for the additional orders. A few score copies of THE OUTSIDER AND OTHERS are still available, and so you may tell your friend. .... I don't know what to say about the SELECTED POEMS. It should be along fairly soon, but I simply do not know. Next poetry book will be AND YOU, THOREAU! from New Directions. Decker, who published RIND OF EARTH last fall, is in Prairie City, Ill., he uses all handset type, does all his own work. .... Glad you found the Regional booklet is interesting. Best to you,..." And You, Thoreau! was a chapbook published by New Directions, as part of their Poet of the Year series. Rind of Earth was a poetry collection by Derleth, published by Decker Press (Decker also published a few other poetry collections by Derleth). This postcard indicates lean times at Arkham House Publishers, and that there are numerous unsold copies of their first published book, Lovecraft's The Outsider and Others.

A bit toned, verso is soiled, recto with ink cancels and minor soiling. Near fine.
