DEVANT, David (1868 ? 1941). Handwritten Account of Devant's Program. Circa 1900. A lengthy handwritten description on a lined sheet titled ?Devant's Programme" and describing in detail a short parlor magic program y the great magician, laying bare not only the order of the effects he presented, but also the apparent methods used to accomplish them, and mentioning lines of patter from Devant's script. The show included a Flags of All Nations production to open, a hat production, tricks with a glass of water, and a sword and flag effect. The anonymous writer comments about one of Devant's movements (loading the hat): ?From the front this was done very clumsily indeed." One folded 4to sheet, writing on two sides only. This manner of analysis from a contemporary magician (and one apparently well versed as to the methods behind Devant's magic) are scarce.
