On 10 November 1876, George Craik (Dodgson?s contact at Macmillan) wrote to Dodgson about the idea of Spanish and Portuguese translations of Alice appearing in magazines. He wrote: ?I fear there is little chance of making money out of such translations anywhere. I believe the kindest advice is to dissuade translators from attempting to gain by their work??.
