DODGSON, Charles Lutwidge (?Lewis Carroll?) (1832-1898). Alicia en el pais de las Maravillas [in Spanish]. Madrid: Editorial Rivadeneyra, [1922]. Small folio. Numerous color illustrations by Santana Bonilla, including two large double-page foldouts to form a panorama. Original pictorial wrappers printed in red and green, color illustration mounted to upper cover (some light splitting at heel). FIRST SPANISH EDITION, which Weaver erroneously states that this edition was in the Catalan language. On 10 November 1876, George Craik (Dodgson?s contact at Macmillan) wrote to Dodgson about the idea of Spanish and Portuguese translations of Alice appearing in magazines. He wrote: ?I fear there is little chance of making money out of such translations anywhere. I believe the kindest advice is to dissuade translators from attempting to gain by their work??. It would be nearly half a century later until Dodgson?s Alice would be translated into Spanish. Rare in this fine of condition. Not in Lovett; Weaver, p. 134.
