[DOYLE, Arthur Conan (1859-1930), subject]. DOYLE, (Lady) Jean Conan (1874-1940). Autograph Letter Signed to Author Coulson Kernahan, in Which She Praises Her Husband, Sir Arthur. Crowborough: May 1, [ca. 1915]. Six small 8vo pages on one folded 4to sheet plus one small 8vo sheet. On Conan Doyle's Crowborough mourning stationery with mailing envelope in Lady Conan Doyle's hand. Addressed: "Dear Mr. Coulson-Kernahan" on p. [1] and signed "Yours Sincerely Jean Conan Doyle" on p. [6]. Written in black ink. In this letter Lady Conan Doyle thanks Kernahan for the book he sent her (Kernahan (1858-1943), was a prolific novelist). Later, she enthusiastically praises the character of her husband, Sir Arthur: "Yes! I am proud of my husband! Not a day passes that he does not sped his spend his influential [?] powers + strength helping forward some good cause - and in helping to cheer & brighten some grey lives in some way or other. The beautiful simple nobility of his wonderful character fills my heart with the feeling that I am the most blest & the happiest woman in the world! So you see I am proud of him!" Sir Arthur married Jean Elizabeth Leckie in 1907 after the death of his first wife, and she bore him three children, including Royal Air Force officer Dame Jean Conan Doyle (they are occasionally confused due to the similarity of their names).
