INSCRIBED BY DOYLE in Vol. I in the date of publication possibly to a soldier: ?With all kind remembrance, Arthur Conan Doyle, Feb. 8/16?. Each volume, published individually to eventually form this 6-volume set, covered a single year of WWI that contains a series of articles written by Doyle who was intensely interested in military matters. Doyle?s first born son Kingsley (1892-1918) served admirably in WWI from 1914 to 1917 but would soon die from pneumonia during the pan-European influenza on 28 October 1918. Several photos would soon appear in 1919 and 1920 showing the ?spirit? of Kingsley with Doyle and his wife Jean.
