DUCAREL, Cecil (Thomas Samuels, 1854-1938). Large Archive of Ducarel Manuscripts and Memorabilia. 1880s ? 1930s. Including five folders of manuscript and typed instructions for varying forms of magic effects, organized by category (mentalism, silks, cards, etc.), which were passed from Ducarel to fellow magician ?Jock" Marsh; and a binder with examples of Ducarel's advertising and brochures, and letterpress handbills. Over 100 pages, generally in good used condition, with lengthy descriptions of the performance of magic effects making up the bulk of the manuscript material. Dr. Dawes wrote an interesting biography of Ducarel in his ?Rich Cabinet of Magical Curiosities" (Oct. 2010) where he noted, ?His life embraced the reigns of five monarchs and by the time of his death in 1938 he had become well known to the wider fraternity through his contributions to magic publications and as a magic collector." Ducarel worked as a ventriloquist nearly as much as, if not more than a conjurer.
