DUNSANY, Lord (Edward John Moreton Drax Plunkett, 18th Baron Dunsany, 1878-1957). The Sword of Welleran. London: George Allen and Sons, 1908. 8vo. [243], [1, colophon], pp. Illustrated by S. H. Sime. Publisher's green cloth stamped gilt with curving sword design, top edge gilt. FIRST EDITION, FIRST PRINTING OF DUNSANY'S THIRD BOOK.

This collection of short stories, containing Bleiler's favorites "The Kith of the Elf-Folk," "The Ghosts," and "The Fortress Unvanquishable, Save for Sancnoth"—a major influence on sword-and-sorcery fantasy—also marked Dunsany's last exploration of Pegana as he turned his attention toward more modern subject matter. Housed in a custom leather-spine slipcase.

Condition

Light rubbing to extremities, corners worn, spine darkened, minor edge wear, small tear to top spine block, discoloration to margins. Tanning to endpapers, many pages uncut. Very good.
