FIRST EDITION OF THIS SATIRICAL SCIENCE FICTION NOVEL. The "Consolidator" is a chariot led by two winged creatures that fly the anonymous author to the Moon. This novel is political satire by Defoe. Of interest, the "Consolidator" is one of the earliest spaceships in known literature; this, as well as the description of the Moon and spaceflight, qualifies this rare book as a progenitor to modern science fiction. With the armorial bookplate of Lord Viscount Christopher Castlecomer (1565-1707) of Ireland.
Condition
Binding heavily worn, soiled, front joint cracking, rear joint starting, hinges cracking, ffep. and front blank missing, text toned, occasionally foxed and soiled, some creasing in text, ink notation on rp. Still, good.
