FINDLAY, J.B. (1904 ? 73). Large Archive of Findlay Magic Memorabilia. 1940s ? 90s, and including approximately 200 items. Of particular interest are the records of the landmark Sotheby's auctions of Findlay's magic collection, including photographs of the saleroom, lists, invoices, and settlement statements and invoices, presented by the auction house to Findlay's son, David. Accompanying these papers are copies of some of the catalogs and lists of prices realized, as well as items collected by Eddie Dawes at the sale and afterward, along with items related to the publication of the Ninth Collectors Annual (including proof sheets of the illustrations); and a host of material related to Findlay's life and collecting: photographs, Christmas cards, a file of book and magic lists that were part of Findlay's archive from various dealers in new and used magic items, correspondence, a radio script co-authored by Findlay, copies of relevant documents in other collections, notes on Findlay's life, drafts of stories by or about Findlay, and more. A well-kept archive of significant interest to the magic historian and collector, generally in very good or good condition. Should be seen.
