[FINE PRESS BOOKS]. SHAKESPEARE, William (1564-1616). The Letterpress Shakespeare. London: The Folio Society, 1982-2008. Folios, each accompanied by an 8vo companion volume. Complete in 39 volumes. Folio volumes are bound in three-quarter morocco over marbled boards, spines lettered in gilt, 8vo volumes are bound in cloth. All volumes in publisher's cloth clamshell boxes. The different plays are color-coded as follows: Tragedies (volumes 1-12), bound in red; Comedies (volumes 13-28) are bound in green; Histories (volumes 29-38) are bound in blue; the Sonnets and Poetry (volume 39) is bound in teal. VOLUMES ARE UNIFORMLY NUMBERED 1881; THESE VOLUMES WERE PUBLISHED IN VARIOUS LIMITATIONS OF 3,370, 1,000, AND 1,980 (the publishers made sure to keep the limitation numbers uniform, even if the numbers were higher than the published numbers). The published editions decreased as the projected sales didn't materialize as quickly as the publishers had wanted. Complete sets of this are uncommon. Complete list available upon request.
