Period olive straight?grain morocco, gilt foliage and vine borders, raised bands gilt, gilt framing in compartments, gilt dentelle turn ins, marbled endpapers, all edges gilt, concealing a FORE?EDGE PAINTING of a wooded scene of stags and cascading streams at Glen Tilt, Perthshire; custom cloth Solander box gilt. Provenance: Eton gift inscription on front fly written during Scott?s lifetime (?J. G. Smyth/from his friend/Broderick/on leaving Eton/March 18th 1831?); autograph card signed with a Princeton graduation sentiment dated 1944 affixed to front pastedown; John Michael Kauffman (bookplate).
