London: Jonathan Cape, [1966]. 8vo. 617, [3, blank] pp. Publisher?s purple paper backstrip over gray boards, spine stamped in gilt, publisher?s unclipped (?30s. net?) dust jacket (minor rubbing to cloth spine, very faint offsetting to endleaves; jacket spine and edges very lightly toned, and occasionally rubbed). Fine. Housed in later chemise and cloth slipcase. FIRST ENGLISH EDITION, SIGNED BY FOWLES ON THE TITLE-PAGE AND DATED ?2.7.02?. This is Fowles? second novel, and considered one of his finest. It is on the list of the Modern Library 100 Best Novels (#93), and the BBC?s The Big Read (#67).
