Bound in contemporary full calf, spines ruled in gilt, red gilt morocco lettering labels on spines (bindings worn, soiled, joints cracking, front board of volume I detached, occasional light soiling or foxing in text). Contemporary ownership signatures (?Gab G. White Jan [?] 20, 1793? and ?R. E. White? on front binder?s blanks, and with ink notations at top of those blanks delineating the volume numbers. Near fine. THE RARE FIRST EDITIONS, FIRST ISSUES OF THIS VERSION OF FRANKLINS AUTOBIOGRAPHY AND OTHER WORKS. This had first appeared in a French translation in 1789; a poor English translation was issued in 1793. This better and more accurate translation is actually the third edition overall of?Franklin?s Autobiography.
