GEMMELL, David (1948-2006). Wolf in Shadow. London: Century, 1987. 8vo. [x], 1-326 pp. Publisher's blue cloth spine stamped gilt in original unclipped ("£10.95") illustrated dust jacket. FIRST EDITION, FIRST PRINTING OF THE FIRST NOVEL IN GEMMELL'S 'STONES OF POWER/JON SHANNOW' SERIES, SIGNED ON THE TITLE PAGE.

Gemmell first intended Wolf in Shadow (re-titled Jerusalem Man for publication in the U.S) as a standalone novel before expanding it into a trilogy with The Last Guardian (1889) and Bloodstone (1994). This sequence is itself a sub-series in his broader 'Stones of Power Cycle' alongside Ghost King (1988) and Sword of Power (1988). The cycle is completed by two other novels, Lion of Macedon (1990) and Dark Prince (1991). This hardcover edition was published in a very limited run; Gemmell has signed the title page in ink.
