GODIE, Lee (American, 1908-1994). Untitled. (Vertical montage with John Hancock Buildings and Four Figures. Attached Altered Photo Sewn to Canvas with the Artist's Hair). Ca. 1980s. Ballpoint pen and watercolor on canvas, with altered photograph attached. Inscribed verso, ?160.00", also with drawings of eyes and leaves. This is truly a tour de force for Godie. A vertical hanging piece starting at the bottom with a probable waiter figure flanked by John Hancock buildings, with an androgynous figure above with pink hair and above that two ?twin" females with chokers and two more John Hancocks. At lower right is a ghostly self-portrait photo with eyes, eyebrows and lips colored in, with the figure holding her portfolio case, which she would call her muriel (mural) case. Photo sewn to canvas with her own hair! Light surface dirt. Unusual patterns, textures and marks inherent. Hung by a dowel rod. Good condition. Unframed. Photograph 5 x 3 ?". Overall 67 x 25 ?".
