Images of ruined building remains of downtown Chicago include the Open Board Building, Chamber of Commerce, Fifth National Bank, and the Court House. George Barnard was a renowned Civil War photographer who followed General Sherman on campaign, capturing the destructive aftermath of the ravaged battlefield. Barnard later lived in Chicago at the time the Great Fire broke out, managing to capture, again, the destructive aftermath caused by man.
