Hamilton was a science fiction writer during the Golden Age of Science Fiction, writing numerous stories for Weird Tales, Wonder Stories, and other magazines. He won the first Jules Verne Prize for best short story (The Island of Unreason, 1933, the precursor of the Hugo Awards). He also wrote for DC Comics, writing stories for Batman and Superman and others. His pulp character, Captain Future, is his best-known original character. Of note, the famous meme of Batman slapping Robin is from one of the stories he wrote, The Clash of Cape and Cowl.
