The recipient, Louis Blau, was Hasford's literary and film attorney, as well as the literary and film attorney for Stanley Kubrick, who directed and co-wrote Full Metal Jacket (1987), based on Hasford's novel, The Short Timers (1979). The Phantom Blooper was the second of a projected trilogy of novels about the Vietnam War, the first being The Short Timers (Hasford died of diabetes before he could write the third installment of this trilogy). Blau also represented Hasford in his criminal trial for stealing thousands of books from various libraries in California and elsewhere. Hasford served a few months in jail, and had to pay restitution. A fascinating association. From the personal collection of Louis Blau, literary and film attorney for Gustav Hansford.
