HEMINGWAY, Ernest (1899-1961). Autograph Postcard Signed to His Father as a Child - Possibly the Earliest Known Letter by Hemingway. Walloon Lake, Mich. "Windemere" [ca. 1907]. 2 32mo pp. on postcard from "Windemere."  Written in pencil. Approximately 3 1/2 x 5 1/2". Addressed "Dear papa." Signed on verso "Ernest Heming/way". Toned, some rubbing, portion of printed "Windemere"  scuffed. Very good. In addition, Hemingway wrote "Ernest" in faint pencil near the printed "Windemere."

Condition

Written in Hemingway's childish manuscript (presumed at 8 years old) in pencil. "Dear papa. I saw a mother duck with seven little babies. how big is my corn? / Ursula saw them first we went strawberry picking and got enough to make three short-cakes. Ernest Heming/way". Utterly charming. This is the first listed item in Spanier & Trogdon (editors) Letters of Ernest Hemingway (2011).
