HERBERT, Terry. Monty?s House. A mechanical kid show trick in which the performer?s pet rabbit, Monty, pops up in to view from his wooden house repeatedly, though the magician is apparently unaware of the rabbit?s presence. This running gag continues, until, near the end of the show, the pet rabbit puppet is transformed into a real live bunny. 11 x 10 x 18?. The prop was built by Fred Barton who presented it with a teddy bear theme. Herbert updated the prop to incorporate ?Monty? the rabbit. The mechanics were recently refurbished to new working condition. A history of this prop and its use and refurbishment was published by Mark Walker in The Osirian. The effect was a regular feature of noted kid show magician Terry Herbert?s shows and was one of his most popular running gags and tricks. The routine for the effect was first released on video on Terry Herbert ? Children?s Magic The Herbert Way. Originated by Fred Barton, author of the children?s book The Land of Make Believe, Donald Bevan (editor of Abracadabra) purchased the effect, sold it to magic dealer Paul Scott, and finally to Terry Herbert. Since then it has been completely refurbished to as new working condition. Accompanying the prop are Herbert?s notes and a history of this one-of-a-kind effect.
