HODGSON, William Hope (1877-1918). The House on the Borderland. Sauk City, Wisconsin: Arkham House, 1946. 8vo. [xi], [1]-639 pp. Publisher's black buckram with spine gilt in original unclipped ("$5.00") pictorial dust jacket. FIRST ARKHAM HOUSE EDITION.

Departing from the typical conventions of gothic fiction, Hodgson's House on the Borderland is hailed as a foundational work in the development of "weird fiction," leaving a lasting impression on authors such as Terry Pratchett, Clark Ashton Smith, and H.P. Lovecraft, who praised Hodgson and the novel at length. The Arkham House issue also collects Hodgson's novellas "The Boats of 'Glen Carrig,'" "The Ghost Pirates," and "The Night Land." The initial run was limited to 3,000 copies.
