HOOVER, J. Edgar (1895-1972). Typed Letter Signed [And:] First Edition of Masters of Deceit. Letter: Washington, DC., January 19, 1959. On United States Department of Justice / Federal Bureau of Investigation / Office of the Director stationery. Addressed: "Mr. Harold J. Mitchell", and signed "J. Edgar Hoover". Approximately 10 1/4 x 8". Two hole-punches at top, two horizontal creases. Fine. 

Condition

This cordial letter, addressed to an FBI special agent, congratulates Mitchell on the birth of his son. [And:] Ibid. Masters of Deceit. The Story of Communism in America and How to Fight It. New York: Henry Holt, [1958]. 8vo. 374 pp. Publisher's binding, unclipped dust jacket. Binding lightly rubbed with some sunning at edges, endleaves a bit toned and foxed, some foxing to edge of text block; jacket toned, edgeworn, with some soiling, scuffing, marginal chipping, tears, some foxing. Good. FIRST EDITION, SIGNED BY HOOVER ON FFEP. With Harold J. Mitchell's signature on the half-title.
