This photo was printed for publicity purposes by Houdini and issued in a variety of formats. The background (and other men in the photo) were removed with careful retouching, giving the impression of a one-on-one meeting of the two great men. Houdini did perform for Roosevelt on the journey, presenting a trick with Spirit Slates for the chief executive.
